Drone Swarming

The objective of the Drone Swarming competition is to challenge participants to design a swarm drone performance by programming programmable drones. The performance should be synchronized with a chosen musical piece in accordance with the established rules. Contestants are expected to demonstrate precise flying skills, deliver an engaging performance, showcase innovative and creative choreography design, and adhere to safety protocols. This competition aims to showcase the participants' abilities in drone programming, choreography, and safe operation while creating an entertaining and synchronized aerial display.

The Royal Trophy Invitation Ceremony

08:30 AM – Ceremony for the Presentation of the Royal Trophy

  • The President, the Organizing Committee, and distinguished guests will arrive at the event venue. The officials will present the Royal Trophy, placing it on a table in front of the portrait of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Princess of Thailand, Princess of the Crown.

09:00 AM – Presentation of the Royal Trophy

  • With utmost respect
  • The presiding official will place a ceremonial cone and garland.
  • The presiding official will accept the Royal Trophy.
  • The national anthem will be played.
  • The presiding official will offer a salute.

10:00 AM – Completion of the Royal Trophy Presentation Ceremony and Group Photograph

 

12:30 PM – 3:00 PM – Flight Simulator Championship 2024 (Final Round)

 

3:00 PM – 3:30 PM – Announcement of Competition Results:

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM – Royal Trophy Award Ceremony

  • The winners of the competition will receive the Royal Trophy in front of the portrait of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Princess of Thailand, Princess of the Crown.
  • The presiding official will deliver words of encouragement and present souvenirs from the organizing committee. 

4:30 PM – Group Photograph

 

5:00 PM – Conclusion of the Ceremony and All Activities


Categories

Team Composition:

  • 2-4 students per team
  • Applicants must be between 12-25 years old
 
 

Requirements

  • Registered teams must design a group drone performance by programming the drones to synchronize with their chosen music and the movements of team members.
  • The aerial display should consist of programmed drones, with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 8 drones programmed by team members.
  • Drones can be pre-programmed or manually controlled. However, pre-programmed drones will have an advantage in scoring compared to manually controlled ones.
  • Any number of team members may participate as part of the choreographed performance.
  • The area for drone flight and choreographed performance should not exceed 5m x 5m x 2.4m (height). The maximum flight height is 2.4m.
  • The drones permitted for use in the competition are: 1.Tello EDU   2.RoboMaster TT
  • The programming language to be used is Python.

Submission

Submission Guidelines:

Registered teams must submit their team’s work as a video file within the specified date and time according to the following guidelines:

 

  1. Upload your video file to Google Drive between November 1 – November 8, 2024 at (Form link)
        • The video must not exceed 5 minutes in length
        • The video resolution must be at least 1080p
        • The video layout must be horizontal
        • Do not use copyrighted music in the video (strictly prohibited to use songs/images from artists, record companies, or copyrighted movies)
        • The video must be shot in a continuous take

2. Editing of the performance video is prohibited.

3. Adjusting audio/music or volume levels is permitted. Captions may be added.

4. The camera may pan and change positions at any time during the performance if desired.

5. Prepare your program code documentation. The team should include notes explaining what each section of the code does.

6. The program code used should be captured in screenshots and included in a Word document.

7. Failure to submit the work within the specified time will result in the team’s disqualification from the competition,

8. The on-site competition will be held on November 27, 2024

Scoring

Performances will be evaluated by a panel of expert judges based on the following criteria:

  1. Creativity and Innovation (40%)
    Teams will be evaluated on the originality, creativity, and innovation of their choreography design, drone movements, performance, and member role distribution.
  2. Flying Technique (30%)
    Teams will be assessed on their flying skills, accuracy, and complexity of movements.
  3. Performance Creativity (25%)
    Teams will be evaluated on the entertainment value, excitement, and engagement of their team’s performance.
  4. Safety (5%)
    Teams will be assessed on the safety of their performance and adherence to safety regulations.

Awards

  • First Prize: Royal Trophy 
  • Second Prize: Honorary Trophy 
  • Third Prize: Honorary Trophy 
  • Honorable Mention: 1 award with a certificate

** All teams will receive a certificate of participation.**

Dress Code

  • All team members, supporters, accompanying persons, and cheer squads must dress appropriately. Shorts, miniskirts, and sandals are not permitted.
  • Athletes must wear attire suitable and proper for their performance.

FAQs

The performance should not exceed 5 minutes. There is a 3-minute allowance for equipment setup. The video used in the performance must not be longer than 5 minutes and should be unedited.

Prepare the program code document (Python) and explain what each part of the code does. Submit this along with the video.

Using 4 drones earns 5 points, using 6 drones earns 8 points, using 7 or more drones earns 10 points. This also includes the discretion of the judging committee.

It may be in an online format, or teams can inquire individually if they have any questions.

Only RoboMaster TT and Tello EDU drones are allowed. Teams can use between 4 to 8 drones.

The music used in the performance must not be copyrighted.

2-4 members with 1 advisor, for junior high to high school levels

15 years old and above, from grades 7 to 12 (M.1-M.6)

The drone flight performance area should not exceed 5m x 5m x 2.4m (maximum flight height is 2.4m). The dance performance area for performers should not exceed 2m x 5m.
