Drone Soccer

Drone Soccer

Drone Soccer is a team competition played with sUAS (small Uncrewed Aerial System) aircraft enclosed in protective spherical cages. Matches take place within a netted playing area with teams standing outside each end zone. During each Set, a designated aircraft for each team, the “Striker”, attempts to score by flying through the opposing goal. All other aircraft act as defense to block the opposing team. The team with the most goals in the three minute duration wins the Set, and the Match is determined by best out of three Sets.

Competition Rules

Match Duration

Each match has a duration of 30 minutes, which includes setup, gameplay, and repair periods.

The match consists of 3 Sets, with each set lasting 3 minutes. The first team to win 2 out of 3 sets wins the match.

The repair period is 5 minutes but can be shortened if both teams are ready.

Verdict (Match Decision)

At the end of each set’s time limit, the team with the higher score is declared the winner of that set.

The team that wins 2 out of 3 sets will be declared the winner of the match.

In the event of a 1–1 set tie: The winner will be determined by the method announced by the tournament organizer prior to the start of the tournament.

Pilots & Drones

Each team has 3 pilots controlling 3 drones.

Player substitutions or backup drones are not permitted while a set is in progress.

If the Striker drone becomes unable to continue flying, the team must continue the match with the remaining drones until the end of that set and cannot score additional points in that set.

Drones must be prepared and ready by the specified time. Failure to prepare the minimum required number of drones will result in a forfeit of the match.

Match Start Procedure

Pilots place their drones in the starting area, connect the batteries, and check readiness before leaving the playing area.

The match begins after a ten-second announcement from the official.

Awards

Prizes will be allocated based on the ranking of the competing teams. Certificates will be awarded to the winners of each category by Space Challenge Asia.

FAQs

The playing area for 20cm class drones is 3m wide, 6m long, and 3m tall.

  • If the match is tied after three sets, the winner is determined by sudden death overtime. The first team to score in overtime wins the match.

Each team is allowed three pilots controlling 3 drones during gameplay. Substitutions can be made during the repair intervals but not during the set.

If a drone is damaged and cannot fly, the pilot must disarm the aircraft and place the radio on the ground.

A goal is scored when the Striker flies completely through the opposing team’s goal in the forward direction.
